Curriculum Vitae

Born in London in 1947. I studied at Guys Hospital (University of London) 1965—1971, gaining a BSc, upper second class Honours, in Anatomy in 1968, and qualifying as a medical doctor in 1971 with the L.R.C.P. and M.R.C.S. Diploma. Later the same year I took the MBBS degree. I passed the F.R.C.S. in 1977.

I am a cosmetic surgeon working in full-time private practice in the United Kingdom. I feel that proper mutual communication between the patient and the surgeon is an essential requirement for successful cosmetic surgery, coupled with an uncompromising attitude on my part to ensure that each patient gets the best possible result from their treatment. This approach has been very successful and I have a very busy practice and a long waiting list.

In 1980 I joined the British Association of Cosmetic Surgeons. The criteria for joining are quite strict. The applicant has to be a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and to have been in Private Practice as a Cosmetic Surgeon for at least two years previously.

In 1982 members of the BACS were introduced to liposuction by Dr. Illouz who presented a number of demonstrations at private clinics. Liposuction was first performed in England by BACS members so I was one of the first surgeons in England to do this operation. In the same year I was appointed Hon Treasurer of the BACS.

I have built on my training and extensive experience in Cosmetic Surgery and have continued to develop and refine my techniques. Over the past twenty years I have personally operated on several thousand patients. I would not have been able to continue my career if the majority of my patients were not very happy with the treatment they had received. I was elected Secretary of the British Association of Cosmetic Surgeons 1993-5 and I am Vice-President of the European Confederation of Aesthetic Surgical Societies. I am frequently asked by my cosmetic surgery colleagues for advice and information regarding problem patients because of my wealth of experience. I am often asked by Solicitors to give opinions on the cosmetic surgery performed by other surgeons. I have demonstrated my operating techniques on many occasions to other surgeons, of all types from trainee to very senior. For the past two or three years I have specialized in facelifting, using various different techniques, and also secondary (revision) rhinoplasty.

I have attended many National and International conferences on Cosmetic Surgery over the years and have presented papers at several. I have given lectures on facelifting in Paris and Berlin at major international conferences and also in Britain. I have written a number of published articles on various aspects of the speciality and been on the academic faculty of several large conferences. My huge collection of “before” and “after” photographs of cosmetic patients has been often used by writers when they have needed photographs for their articles in the media. As in all surgical specialities it is essential to keep up to date as surgical techniques are evolving all the time, and I have done this by my extensive reading and talking to colleagues from all over the world. I do however feel it is important to preserve a strong sense of cynicism, to protect my patients from every new gimmick that comes along.

Social History

I am married and have three children. My elder son is a Barrister and my younger son is a director of an IT company. I also have a daughter aged 16.

I am interested in music and play saxophone in a Rock n Roll and blues band. I play tennis (badly) for relaxation. I am a keen member of my local Rotary Club and was elected President 1994-5. I spend a lot of time in Rotary-related projects.
